galley hood
A galley hood is a ventilation component located above cooking appliances in a ship’s kitchen (galley). Its purpose is to extract heat, smoke, steam, and especially grease-laden vapors produced during cooking. Over time, grease accumulates in the hood, ducting, and exhaust fan, posing a serious fire hazard if not properly maintained.
HOW DO WE DO IT ?
The cleaning of the galley hood and extraction system involves removing all grease buildup to prevent fire hazards. The hood is manually cleaned with non-corrosive degreasers and polished for protection. The ducts are degreased using a combination of manual cleaning and rotary brushing with the LIFA AIR system, designed to thoroughly remove grease from the ducting. Finally, the exhaust fan is dismounted and manually cleaned. This process is part of the mandatory annual maintenance for commercial vessels to reduce fire risks caused by grease accumulation.
